Dear [Insert Name],
I am a constituent in your district writing to encourage you to support legislation to establish the new College of Medicine at the University of Houston. This ambitious project represents a unique opportunity to improve Texas’ economy as well as the health and lives of residents in the Greater Houston area and across the state.
There are many compelling reasons to support this important project for our state:
Currently, Texas ranks 47th out of 50 states in the number of primary care physicians per 100,000 residents. With our ever-increasing population, it is critical that we ensure that our state has the ability to attract, train and retain talented primary care doctors to serve our residents. UH’s new College of Medicine will satisfy that need.
For Texas to continue to be the nation’s economic powerhouse, we must diversify our economy and create world-class institutions. We need to attract top talent from across the nation to Texas and construct facilities capable of the next big breakthrough in research. The new UH College of Medicine will satisfy that need.
And if these weren’t strong enough reasons to support this essential project, a recent study concludes that the new UH College of Medicine will create an economic impact in excess of $1 billion per year by 2050.
I respectfully ask you to support any legislation to establish the UH College of Medicine. This is a win-win for our state economy, taxpayers, and anyone in Texas who needs high-quality medical care from the next generation of providers.
